THE RURAL THING

Why do we mention a few times on this site that we operate from the Countryside rather than a town or city?  No reason really other than it is a lifestyle choice that, we hope, reflects a little bit about ourselves.  We don't overplay it but we are as eco friendly as possible, making as little harmful impact on the environment as we possibly can. Our world is important to us so we recycle (including when we can, re-using the packaging that your mugs are delivered to us in, to send on to yourselves), try to work as paper free as possible and indeed try to be a fuel efficient business. We recycle water and avoid chemical pollution (including printing inks) into our drains.

We don't have a cottage with roses around the door - our premises are in fact quite modern - but it is a calm way of life, where we will occasionally get the smell of the farm rather than car exhausts, the sound of a tractor rather than the police siren and occasionally get cut off by flooding. We are often visited by interesting creatures that will distract us for a few minutes - but with our way of life we do have that few minutes.

We have a fairly old fashioned approach to business that seems to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the modern City - and yet are fully up to date in operations reflected in our use of IT and the internet.

It's a lifestyle we have chosen for the family and the workplace. No big deal - we just think it's worth saying.

Our Mug Prices

As a family business, we operate from a rural community on the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border. We keep our costs to a minimum and communicate with our customers mostly by email and telephone.

Sales arrive through three main sources - word of mouth recommendation from customers, response to our direct contact and of course through this medium - this web page.

Our prices are competitive – even more so if you are not VAT registered as we too are not registered for VAT.

This is a deliberate policy. We are proud to be defined as a "small business" because as well as giving a very personal service - when you use us you will normally deal with the person who designs and makes the product - by remaining below the VAT threshold we are able to offer a good saving to many of our customers who are also not VAT registered, yet still remain very competitive with those who are.

We also believe that by remaining at a certain level, we are able to withstand the current economic problems far more than bigger institutions.

PRICES

We have a standard price list on our products in which we list a price for the mug itself, then add on set up charges, origination, delivery and so on.

But we have found that our customers much prefer us to quote an all in price that includes everything including delivery.  The truth is that suppliers often leave out delivery costs when quoting, or tag them on at the end of the conversation.  But the cost of delivering goods can be quite significant - particularly on smaller orders.

So our price guide on a Standard Mug* for 2011 states only the final figure that we charge including design, set-up and delivery.

6 mugs for £37-50 including design, set up and delivery

12 mugs for £52 including design, set up and delivery

24 mugs for £85 including design, set up and delivery

30 mugs for £99 including design, set up and delivery

36 mugs for £108 including design, set up and delivery

48 mugs for £140 including design, set up and delivery

60 mugs for £170 including design, set up and delivery

72 mugs for £200 including design, set up and delivery

96 mugs for £250 including design, set up and delivery

100 mugs for £260 including design, set up and delivery

108 mugs for £280 including design, set up and delivery

144 mugs for £370 including design, set up and delivery

200 mugs for £500 including design, set up and delivery

500 mugs for £1,220 including design, set up and delivery

600 mugs for £1,450 including design, set up and delivery

750 mugs for £1,775 including design, set up and delivery

1000 mugs for £2,360 including design, set up and delivery

Of course we can produce any number - these are just examples - but the above are the most popular order numbers.

In fact the above price's are "packaged" a little lower than our static price list prices - for example the price list shows 36 mugs including a separate delivery charge coming out at £119-25, so the offer packages give a considerable saving.

*A "STANDARD MUG" is our basic supplied mug commonly known as a "Durham shaped Wycombe Rhino Coated".  It is the mug featured in our pictures throughout this web site. The Rhino Coating is probably the best available for dishwasher protection and while we don't guarantee our mugs being dishwasher proof in every circumstance - we have domestically dishwashed samples 100's of times without a problem.

We also supply a range of other mugs including the "Two Tone Mug" which has a coloured rim and handle (see illustration on the header on the left), "The SMUG" - half size to the standard and boxed - and the "Sandhurst" or "Can" mug which is a porcelain china mug, about 10cm tall and 22cm circumferance;  2cm thiner diameter than the standard. (Illustraions to be added to site soon.)

The "Sandhurst" mug comes out around 75p more per mug than the standard Durham.  Some examples of prices below ...

  • 36 mugs for £135 including design, set up and delivery
  • 72 mugs for £254 including design, set up and delivery
  • 108 mugs for £360 including design, set up and delivery
  • 200 mugs for £650 including design, set up and delivery

We then jump to the next level with Bone China.  These cost around £2 more each than the standard Mug.  Our Bone China mug is called the "Windsor" shape mug.  (You can normally tell when a product is made in the far east as they use very traditional British names - in this case the Windsor is made in China and printed in Whitbourne.)

  • 36 mugs for £180 including design, set up and delivery
  • 72 mugs for £344 including design, set up and delivery
  • 108 mugs for £496 including design, set up and delivery
  • 150 mugs for £685 including design, set up and delivery

If you're interested - ask. These are a bit different and approached in a slightly different way design wise but they are a nice product if you are looking to step up the quality. In particular - the Sandhurst is a very nice product at a pretty reasonable unit price.

Picture below: The famous Swansea Rugby Club placed an order for a club mug and a mug to celebrate their 135th season. We think that the logo is one of the best we've ever had to work with.

PAYMENT

We ask our customers for prompt payment of our invoices where we agree payment by invoice after delivery – though normally with first time customers we will send a Pro-forma invoice by email when the design is agreed and the order is confirmed.

We are typical of many small businesses where cashflow is important. So please respect the service we try to offer and where appropriate, ensure that the accounts department respect our terms.

Delivery

UK mainland delivery (excluding below) are included in the prices we quote.

Our courier company is UK Mail which we find very reliable with minimal damage in transit. We occasionally use Fastway or TNT too as well as Postal delivery on small packages.

However, cost to Northern Ireland, Channel Isles, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and Scottish Islands are considerably more.  This also applies to the north of Scotland, an area  based on postcodes IV & HS but may include other areas. Each will be individually quoted at cost.
Delivery to Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark & Germany is based on £33-00 for 15 kilo's then added sum per kilo depending on the destination.

URGENT ORDERS

Our courier collection is made at around lunchtime each day (between 12 and 2) to collect product made the previous day plus anything that has been completed in the morning.

We pride ourselves that we can act quickly for customers - and when necessary can make a short order (up to 36 mugs) in about 2-3 hours.

Customers that require such an order for delivery the next day need to call us between 8am and 9am. While we can’t always promise to drop everything to satisfy the request, as long as we don’t have to let others down we will do our best to fulfill the requirement.
